Both rentals are situated on a 21-acre wooded lot in the foothills of Jay Peak, the northernmost peak in Vermont’s Green Mountain Range. Most of the property is surrounded by hundreds of acres of undeveloped woods where moose, deer, bear and fox are common. Our private road, “Carmel Rd,” begins at Route 100 and goes gradually uphill for about a mile and a half where it dead ends in the woods. We are the only year-round residence on the whole road.

Carmel Loft is the top level of our home in the woods in the foothills of Jay Peak. When our 3 daughters were growing up, each had a small bedroom there. The space also contained a family chapel and our 3,000 volume, homeschool library. A door led to a 30’ balcony facing south. After they all got married and moved hundreds of miles away, Linda and I converted the space into a one-bedroom vacation rental catering mostly to Jay Peak skiers.
The Loft has a sunny, airy feel because of the large windows facing south and the cathedral ceiling. It is a one bedroom apartment with its own kitchen and roomy bathroom with shower. The living room has a full sleeper sofa which sleeps 2. The bedroom has a queen size bed which also sleeps 2. Occasionally, some guests want a 3rd bed so we provide an adult size cot for them.
No pets allowed.
Guests have access to the rec. room with excellent pool table on the first level (walk-in basement) where there is the superb wood stove that heats the entire house and our laundry which Loft guests may use. Like the Cottage guests, Loft guests have access to our outdoor, wood-fired, clothing-optional sauna in the south yard on Maggie Brook. In gardening season(July 17-20—just kiddin’!), long term Loft guests can be allotted some garden space. When our own gardens are bearing fruit, we share the bounty with all our guests who want our produce. Guests are also welcome to help us out in the gardens where the soils and climate are very conducive to weeds, weeds and weeds! Some former guests have enjoyed helping out with spring clean-up yardwork, watering gardens, stacking firewood, etc. There is always plenty to do outside.
Carmel Rd. continues beyond our house for over a mile and dead-ends in the woods. We are the only residence on the whole road. It makes a very pleasant walk in nature, crossing 2 year-round brooks (Maggie Brook & Elijah Brook) and a seasonal lodge and heated pool we built but have since sold along with over 100 acres of woods.
